Lightship to Expand Colorado Facility, Quadruple Electric RV Production Capacity by 2026

Lightship announced plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Broomfield, Colorado, a move expected to more than quadruple its production capacity for all-electric recreational vehicles by the end of 2026.

The company will increase its existing 32,000-square-foot facility by approximately 44,000 square feet, bringing the total footprint to about 76,000 square feet.

Construction is underway, with operations in the expanded space scheduled to begin this summer.

The expansion is intended to address rising demand for next-generation electric RVs and support additional local manufacturing jobs as production scales.

According to a press release, Toby Kraus, CEO and co-founder of Lightship, described the expansion as a critical milestone for the company’s growth strategy.

“This expansion is a defining moment for Lightship,” Kraus said. “At a time when many companies in this category are outsourcing their production and supply chain overseas, we’re doubling down on our commitment to American manufacturing, accelerating innovation and creating high-skill jobs in a region emerging as a hub for next-generation mobility.”

Lightship said its manufacturing model emphasizes domestic sourcing and supplier collaboration. The company reported that 80% of the component value of its AE.1 electric RV is sourced within the United States, a strategy it said supports quality control, faster product iteration, and reduced exposure to global supply chain disruptions.

The expanded facility is expected to increase vertical integration and enhance service and research and development capabilities.

In addition to the facility expansion, Lightship introduced a revised product configuration for its AE.1 model, setting a starting price of $157,500.

The 77 kWh battery, previously available only on a higher trim priced at $184,000, will now be standard across all AE.1 units.

Ben Parker, co-founder and chief product officer, said the updated offering reflects customer demand and usage patterns.

“More than ninety percent of our customers have chosen the 77 kWh battery. This new lineup makes this popular feature more accessible,” Parker said. “We are also adding options to give customers the flexibility to tailor the product for home backup, extended travel, short-term rental use, and full-time living.”

The company also announced the appointment of Tom vonReichbauer to its board of directors. VonReichbauer brings more than 20 years of experience in scaling hardware and technology companies, including roles at Tesla, Nest, Sunrun, Google, and ICON.
