In the heart of Western Kansas, less than a mile away off I-70, rests an award-winning RV and camping haven known as the Goodland KOA Journey.
Known for its serene environment filled with green lawns, mature shade trees, and colorful blooms, this campground has become a much-appreciated stopover for road-weary travelers, as well as a destination for those seeking an idyllic vacation.
According to campground manager Cindy Miller, the Goodland KOA is a “magical and wonderful place, with an enchanting playground, lovely gardens, a sparkling pool, historical views, and a towering Van Gogh!
Endless possibilities
The park provides a variety of camping options, designed to cater to the diverse needs of visitors. Pull-thru and back-in RV sites with full-hookups and 30/50-amp power cater to those traveling with their RVs, while basic water and electric sites, as well as tent sites, appeal to traditional campers.
In addition to the park’s upgraded Wi-Fi, there’s also cable TV for entertainment. During the summer, from late May to early September, a pool serves as a refreshing retreat. Pets are catered for too, with two dedicated dog parks on site.
For those in search of a comfortable retreat with modern conveniences, air-conditioned cabins are available.
Adding to its broad spectrum of offerings, the Goodland KOA Journey also provides RV rentals.
Through a strategic partnership with RVshare, campers can rent RVs from a list of local options and have them delivered right to the campground.
The campground has also undergone an extensive expansion, adding a total of 31 new RV sites this year.
These sites include several Super Sites up to 100 feet in length as well as traditional full-service 50amp pull-through sites and 50/30amp back-in sites.
Many of the new sites have full patios with furniture and BBQs; one even features an EV charging station for campers’ tow vehicles. Four new Paw Pen sites were added as well, featuring their own private dog runs right on the site.
As part of the expansion, both the bathrooms and the store and office were completely remodeled, offering campers brand-new amenities and a wide variety of local products.
These services, along with the park’s location, accessibility, and features, contribute to Goodland KOA’s reputation as a complete package for campers.
Outdoor adventures, historical treasures, and local attractions
Further enhancing the charm of the location is the rich local heritage, personified in the form of the High Plains Museum.
This museum houses a replica of America’s first patented helicopter, which was built by two local men in 1909.
Just a short distance away, the city park displays a massive 32-foot-high replica of Vincent van Gogh’s famous sunflower painting, signifying Kansas’s status as the Sunflower State.
The allure of the campground isn’t limited to its boundaries. Just less than an hour north of Goodland, nature lovers will discover the Arikaree Breaks, a rugged cluster of badlands along the Arikaree River.
This area offers tranquility, picturesque landscapes, and opportunities for hiking and mountain biking on quiet country roads dotted with yucca and prairie flowers.
A home away from home
Miller shared her perspective on what makes Goodland KOA special.
She said, “I love this campground! We have because of its enchanting playground, lovely gardens, sparkling pool, historical views, and a towering Van Gogh painting right up the road! We have shiny new restrooms and cozy sites, along with a huge new dog run and K9 Paw Pen sites for campers with furry friends. Most of all I love meeting all our campers and making sure they have a fantastic stay with us!”
