A proposed RV park on East Fairview Road in South Rockdale (Georgia) continues to meet resistance from local residents, who have expressed concerns over potential environmental, infrastructural, and traffic impacts.
Eugene West plans to develop 40 acres to provide a “peaceful, relaxing atmosphere” for military veterans and their families.
According to a report by Rockdale Citizen, the proposed RV park project in South Rockdale has sparked “strong opposition” from community members. The development, planned for East Fairview Road, has raised concerns regarding its potential effects on the surrounding environment, local infrastructure, and traffic congestion.
During a recent public meeting, residents voiced concerns about the proximity of the project to nearby residential areas, fearing it may not align with the existing land use and could negatively impact their quality of life.
Residents have also highlighted traffic concerns as well as environmental concerns, with some individuals pointing to the potential sewage issues.
According to West, the park would include 24-hour security, and he emphasized that the traffic impact would be minimal, citing a report by the Rockdale Department of Transportation.
Despite these assurances, residents remain concerned about the strain on local infrastructure and septic systems.
The fate of the proposed RV park in South Rockdale remains uncertain as residents continue to raise concerns and discussions with local officials proceed. Further reviews will be needed before a final determination is made regarding the development.
On August 8, the Conyers-Rockdale Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the denial of the Special Use Permit requested for the proposed RV park and campground on East Fairview Road. The commission cited concerns about the project’s compatibility with the surrounding residential area, traffic issues, environmental and septic concerns, and public safety.
The Rockdale County Board of Commissioners (BOC) will make the final decision on the Special Use Permit at its upcoming meeting on September 10. The board’s decision will determine the future of the RV park proposal, which has been the subject of ongoing public debate.
