Booking.com, a digital travel platform, has introduced new AI-powered features to enhance the travel planning experience. These tools utilize generative AI to assist travelers in finding accommodations, answering property-specific questions, and summarizing guest reviews.
The Smart Filter tool allows users to describe their ideal lodging. For example, a couple seeking a honeymoon experience in Amsterdam might type, “Hotels in Amsterdam with a great gym, rooftop bar, and canal views from the room.” The AI then scans Booking.com’s extensive inventory to apply the most relevant filters automatically, generating a customized list of properties that align with these preferences. This feature also reduces the time and effort required for travelers to pinpoint their preferred accommodations.
To further enhance user convenience, Booking.com has introduced the Property Q&A tool. This feature enables travelers to inquire directly about specific amenities, such as the availability of EV charging stations or pet-friendly policies. The AI scans the property’s listing, guest reviews, and photos to provide concise answers, ensuring travelers can quickly assess if a property meets their needs.
According to its website, Booking.com is also testing a Review Summaries feature to condense guest feedback. This tool provides users with a curated snapshot of reviews, focusing on aspects that travelers find most relevant. This feature is expected to save travelers time while highlighting key points about each property. Booking.com plans to refine the tool further before rolling it out to a broader audience.
Currently, the Smart Filter and Property Q&A tools are accessible via the Booking.com mobile app in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. Review Summaries are anticipated to follow pending further testing. These AI enhancements reflect the platform’s ongoing commitment to integrating technology to address travelers’ needs.
“Our journey with AI for over a decade has always been about leveraging technology to make travel more intuitive and personalized,” said Joe Futty, vice president of product marketplace at Booking.com. “With GenAI, we’re not just enhancing the trip planning process—we’re facilitating more tailored experiences that adapt and respond to travelers’ needs faster than ever before.”
