Chris Worstencroft, founder of Holmcroft Cabins, has been named Glamping Pod Manufacturer of the Year 2026, recognizing the growth of a business that began with a hand-drawn design and has since expanded its reach across the United Kingdom and Europe.
Based in Annan, Holmcroft Cabins designs and manufactures handcrafted glamping pods used by holiday parks, tourism operators, and private landowners. The structures are intended to provide an alternative form of accommodation for operators seeking to add small-scale lodging options to their properties.
Mr Worstencroft said the company’s origins trace back to a simple concept sketch. “At the time, it was just a drawing,” he said. “I never imagined it would grow into the company it has become today.”
Since its founding, the company has focused on producing customized pods that can be installed at holiday parks and other outdoor hospitality sites.
Such accommodations have become increasingly common within the glamping and caravan park sectors as operators look to diversify their offerings and attract travelers seeking a balance between outdoor experiences and more traditional lodging comforts.
Mr Worstencroft acknowledged that building a manufacturing business in the sector has involved obstacles. “Running a business always comes with challenges,” he said. “But when something begins as nothing more than a drawing and grows into something real, it means a lot to see the work recognised.”
A significant moment in Mr Worstencroft’s personal journey occurred in 2024, when a tragic accident prompted him to reevaluate his priorities and the direction of his work. He said the experience reinforced his motivation to continue developing the company.
“My daughter gave me the inspiration to push forward and become better,” he told News & Star. “I wanted to build something positive for her future and show that even after difficult times, it’s possible to turn things around.”
Holmcroft Cabins’ pods are now used at sites throughout the UK and parts of Europe, reflecting continued demand for modular and small-footprint accommodations within the outdoor hospitality industry.
For park operators and landowners, glamping pods can provide an opportunity to increase accommodation capacity while limiting the infrastructure requirements often associated with larger structures.
Industry observers note that manufacturers supplying prefabricated or modular units have become an important part of the glamping ecosystem.
For operators considering expansion, working with manufacturers that offer standardized designs or customizable layouts can help reduce build timelines and simplify installation, particularly in locations where traditional construction may be more complex or restricted by planning considerations.
Mr Worstencroft said the recognition reflects both the company’s progress and the broader journey behind it. “It shows that no matter where you start, it’s possible to build something meaningful.”
For many in the outdoor hospitality sector, the development of companies like Holmcroft Cabins reflects a continuing shift toward diversified accommodation models, with purpose-built pods and modular units playing a growing role in campground, caravan park, and glamping site development strategies.
