Dittisham Hideaway Targets Family and Pet Markets with Expanded Amenities

Dittisham Hideaway, a glamping site in South Devon, has been operating under new ownership since December 2024, offering a range of accommodations including Shepherd’s Huts, treehouses, and a vintage American Airstream.

Located within a private woodland valley near the village of Dittisham and approximately 10 minutes from Dartmouth, the site is designed to provide visitors with a secluded experience while remaining accessible to local attractions.

The property includes five Shepherd’s Huts positioned across a wildflower meadow to maximize privacy and valley views. Each hut features a king-size bed, a pull-out sofa for children, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Additional amenities include a wood-fired hot tub, fire pit, traditional wood-burning stove, and seasonal on-site activities such as nature-themed craft sessions in a woodland tipi.

According to the new owners, who are parents themselves, “We joined a nature-themed craft session, making bird feeders and painting pottery before wandering back through the trees for sunset.”

The site provides a welcome hamper for guests, including basic groceries and beverages, with additional hampers available for pre-order. Dining options nearby include the Ferry Boat Inn in Dittisham and Anchorside Cafe, while Sainsbury’s in Dartmouth is accessible within a 10-minute drive.

WiFi is available throughout the site, and electric vehicle charging points are offered at £25 per charge, according to a review by Muddy Stilettos. Outdoor activities include woodland walks, ping pong, boules, and outdoor chess, and pets now stay for free with dedicated welcome packs.

While the site is not fully accessible due to steep gravel paths and woodland terrain, it is promoted as family- and pet-friendly. The Shepherd’s Huts can accommodate two adults and up to two children, recommended for ages up to eight.

Prices have been reduced under the new ownership, with two-night stays starting at £250 in the low season, and the site has introduced a new weekend rate from Friday 4 p.m. to Monday 10 a.m.

For business owners in the glamping and outdoor hospitality sector, Dittisham Hideaway represents an example of a rural, small-scale operation combining traditional accommodations with boutique-level amenities and seasonal programming.

Its recent price adjustments and expansion of family- and pet-friendly services could inform decisions about accessibility, guest experience, and revenue management in similar rural glamping operations.
