Cove UK Unveils Plans to Expand Springwood Caravan Park in Kelso

Cove UK unveiled plans for an expansion of Springwood Caravan Park in Kelso. The company, which also owns the award-winning Argyll Holidays brand, submitted a planning application to Scottish Borders Council proposing the addition of 36 new static caravans to the existing park.

The proposed expansion would see the new caravans situated on an adjacent farmer’s field. This move comes as part of Cove UK’s strategy to enhance its offerings, with a particular focus on the Borders, Argyll & Bute, and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park areas.

Springwood Caravan Park, nestled in Springwood Village, has been a destination for holidaymakers seeking a countryside retreat. The park currently offers a range of amenities, including free Wi-Fi in accommodation and options for both holiday home ownership and self-catering holidays.

Environmental considerations are part of the proposed development, with a report highlighting the applicant’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The new caravan site will also be designed to blend with the natural environment while offering a “comfortable and responsible experience for visitors.”

According to an article published by Peeblesshire News on July 29, the applicant is willing to collaborate with the local planning authority’s tree officer to agree on all necessary or appropriate method statements and protection measures to reassure the council about their intentions regarding the retention of the trees. Additionally, early engagement with the tree officer would be welcomed.

“The primary use would not change, and it would be a ‘caravan site’ with the proposals. There are no changes as to how the caravans would be used on this part of the caravan site – i.e. they would be used in the same manner as other caravans within the existing holiday park,” the application report indicated.

The approach of Cove UK’s proposal highlights the importance of communicating with the local planning authority early in the process. By prioritizing sustainability and consulting with the authorities, the proposal can facilitate smoother approvals and address potential concerns or local opposition.
