A proposal has been submitted to transform a section of Barleymow Farm, an agricultural field currently used for alpaca grazing and livestock, into a holiday destination featuring five glamping yurts. The farm is located near the A43 in the South Northants, between the villages of Evenley and Croughton.
Carla Savage, the applicant, intends to diversify land use by introducing a small-scale glamping business. Feedback is currently being sought for the project, with a consultation period open until May 8, and a decision by the West Northamptonshire Council is anticipated by June 7.
The planned development includes yurts equipped with double and sofa beds, tables, log-burning stoves, and basic furniture such as drawers, according to a Cambridgeshire Live – News report. The proposal suggests that the yurts will offer comfortable accommodation suitable for weekend and week-long breaks.
Emphasizing sustainability, each yurt will be outfitted with solar-charged power packs for charging electronic devices and solar lighting. Additionally, each unit will have a compost toilet and an eco-friendly ‘jungle shower’ heated by solar power and gas.
For traditional facilities, the site will also feature a conventional toilet and shower block connected to mains water and electricity. Accessibility is part of the project, with one yurt and its facilities being designed for inclusive access, complete with an accessible compost toilet, shower, and a designated disabled parking bay.
“The site will create an opportunity for visitors to base themselves within easy connection to the wide range of attractions nearby, from smaller villages and market towns like Charlton and Brackley, through to Bicester and its popular outlet village, and more active attractions such as Silverstone and The Hinton Skydive Centre,” the applicant said, as quoted in the Cambridgeshire Live report, citing minimal competition within a 5-kilometer radius.
