Caravan Industry Association of Australia Reminds RVers Of Road Safety

As part of supporting the Australian Road Safety Foundation and with 89.6 percent of camping excursions being conducted regionally, the Caravan Industry Association of Australia is keen to remind RVers of the necessity of being vigilant and well-prepared, a report said.

With nearly two-thirds of road deaths taking place on regional roads, the latest research by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) has explained the reasons why Australians must take action.

It is also a prime family camping time as children enjoy their midterm break during Spring. For similar holidays like Easter, seven percent of campers travel over 250 km away from their home and will stay for an average of 4.8 nights.

Being able to coexist with other motorists with large vehicles is an essential aspect of motoring. Using UHF with your channel visible on the rear of your vehicle facilitates effective communication when you are overtaking or reporting dangers to vehicles coming up.

While traveling rural roads with long distances between towns, it’s crucial to have enough sleep. Also, make sure you take regular breaks (15 minutes every two hours), which increases your awareness of the dangers that rural roads could make you vulnerable to. Make sure you do not utilize designated truck stops for evening breaks. Plan your breaks.

The dangers could be narrow roads with loose gravel, which can cause less grip. Animals and wildlife roaming freely present dangers and can result in serious injury in the event of collisions.

Keep mechanical parts like seals, bearings, and grease, as well as suitable tools for carrying simple repairs to ensure you stay in the driving lane.

When planning your excursion, you should consider taking a Towing Education course and a first aid course.

Also, you should know how to utilize your communication devices properly. Bring plenty of water in the event of a breakdown. Allow 5 to 7 liters of water per person, per day.

A first-aid kit is essential. Assistance may be a few minutes, hours, or even days away. Make sure you are prepared.
