Caravan Industry Association of Australia Calls For National Board Nominations

The Caravan Industry Association of Australia (CIAA) has opened nominations for individuals interested in being part of its national body for the sector.

Each year, following the constitution, an opportunity for interested persons to join the board is presented through an election process, voted for by member state caravanning associations. The annual election is subject to only 12 votes, according to a news release.

The CIAA has a board of nine members and a rotation requirement whereby approximately 50% of the board shall be subject to re-election annually.  This year four of the nine board positions will be declared vacant at the AGM in late November.

The national board comprises up to nine individuals from across the industry with no more than five board members involved in the same Caravan Industry Category (Parks or Trades) eligible as determined at the time of their nomination as per constitution clause 4.1.1 (c).

The term of office for each elected director is two years, with a maximum of three consecutive terms, with additional conditions for the Chairperson.

Based on the above requirement, the only two outcomes for the 2022 election will be one park category member and three trade category members elected, or two from each category.

To meet the constitutional requirement of the board composition, an individual receiving fewer votes than another may still be elected to the Board.  In the event of a tied vote, a count-back system provided for in the constitution will be applied.

The election will be conducted electronically and overseen by the Company Secretary, Ed Browne of Macpherson Kelley Lawyers.

Any individual nominee may make a nomination. They must have submitted the online nomination form, signed by a CIAA member who seconds the nomination and submitted it to the association no later than 5pm AEST, October 20.

Nominations that clearly understand the roles and responsibilities between the CIAA and state caravanning associations will be well regarded through the voting process.

The CIAA values national board diversity and encourages those from diverse cultural and gender backgrounds, as well as young members of the industry, to nominate.

For further information on the process (or to arrange for their nomination to be seconded by a member), please contact Stuart Lamont at [email protected] or Company Secretary Ed Browne of Macpherson Kelley at [email protected].
