The Caravan Industry Association of Australia has opened nominations for four positions on its nine-member national board, with candidates required to submit their nominations by 11:59 p.m. AEST on Oct. 19.
The four positions will become vacant at the association’s annual general meeting in late November as part of the board’s annual rotation process. Donna Cocking and Michael Paidoussis are eligible for re-election, while Brad Slater and Gerard Waldron are required to step down.
The national board provides strategic direction for the Caravan Industry Association of Australia, with directors elected exclusively by the member state caravanning associations. The annual election is therefore decided by 12 votes.
Under the association’s constitution, approximately 50% of the board is subject to re-election each year. Directors serve two-year terms and may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms, with additional conditions applying to the chairperson.
The board may include up to nine individuals from across the caravan and camping industry. No more than five eligible board members may be involved in the same caravan industry category, either Parks or Trades, as determined at the time of nomination under the association’s constitution.
The board composition requirements can affect the election outcome. An individual who receives fewer votes than another candidate may still be elected if required to satisfy the constitutional requirements governing industry categories. A tied vote will be resolved through a count-back process specified in the constitution.
The election will be conducted through an electronic ballot. Any individual may nominate a candidate, with nominations required to be submitted through the association’s online nomination form by the Oct. 19 deadline.
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia is also encouraging nominations from individuals representing diverse cultural and gender backgrounds, as well as younger members of the industry.
The nomination process provides an opportunity for candidates to seek election to the national board ahead of the annual general meeting in November, when the four vacant positions will be subject to the election process.
