TACO Urges Winter Texans to Book Texas Campgrounds Early

The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) is encouraging current and prospective Winter Texans to reserve campsites and rental accommodations early for the upcoming winter season, as demand for preferred long-term sites is expected to fill availability at some parks.

The association expects business levels to remain comparable to last winter, but says travelers seeking extended stays should make reservations now to secure their preferred accommodations.

“We expect business levels to be about the same as last winter’s figures, but we encourage current and aspiring Winter Texans to make their reservations now as the best long-term sites and rental accommodations will book up quickly for the winter season,” said Brian Schaeffer, executive director and CEO of the Texas Association of Campground Owners.

The association highlighted five Texas destinations offering recreational vehicle sites, cabins and other accommodations for winter travelers, including parks in the Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi, the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the Hill Country and Houston.

Colonia del Rey RV Park in Corpus Christi offers full hookups, concrete pads accommodating RVs up to 80 feet, a saltwater swimming pool, laundry facilities and year-round community activities. The family-owned park is located eight miles from the beaches of North Padre Island.

Lazy Palms Ranch in Edinburg, in the Rio Grande Valley, features remodeled amenities and organized activities including water exercise, bocce ball, crafts, quilting and line dancing. Its fishing pond is stocked with several species, including channel catfish, bass and tilapia.

Loyd Park in Grand Prairie encompasses 791 acres along the west shore of Joe Pool Lake, with 221 campsites, lakefront cabins, yurts and an 18-room lodge. The lodge includes a furnished kitchen, covered porch, barbecue grill, fire pit and Wi-Fi.

Mystic Quarry in Canyon Lake offers RV sites, furnished cabins, tipis, safari tents and tent camping. Amenities include a swimming pool, game room, playground, dog parks and recreational activities such as volleyball and horseshoes.

Trader’s Village RV Park` in Houston provides concrete RV pads and access to the adjacent Trader’s Village marketplace, which hosts weekend flea markets, shopping, rides and special events. The park also offers a swimming pool, laundry facilities, a recreation hall and propane service.

TACO also makes available its 2026 RV Travel & Camping Guide to Texas, which includes campground, RV resort and dealer listings. The free guide can be ordered through TexasCampgrounds.com or viewed online in a digital page-turning format.

The association, based in Crowley, represents campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across Texas.
