Donegal Council Reviews Plans for Glamping and Wellness Center Expansion in Clonmany

Planning officials in Ireland are reviewing a proposal for a new glamping and wellness development that would expand an existing outdoor tourism business in County Donegal.

Bernard and Catherine Devlin have submitted a planning application to Donegal County Council seeking permission to develop a glamping and wellbeing center at Rockstown, Clonmany. The proposal includes the construction of 10 glamping pods, a wellness center, associated site infrastructure, an on-site wastewater treatment system, and related works.

According to the planning application, the proposed development would operate as an extension of the Devlins’ existing Tullagh Bay Equestrian/Wild Atlantic Adventure Centre, adding overnight accommodations and wellness-focused amenities to the business’s current outdoor recreation offerings.

Planning documents state that the wellness center would include seaweed baths, a sauna, and outdoor meditation and yoga decks positioned to take advantage of views of the surrounding coastline and mountains.

According to Donegal Daily, the proposal also describes the 10 eco-friendly glamping units as accommodations intended for couples and families while being designed to integrate with the existing landscape.

If approved, the project would represent another example of outdoor hospitality businesses expanding their offerings beyond traditional accommodations by incorporating wellness experiences.

The combination of lodging, outdoor recreation, and wellness amenities has become an increasingly common approach among operators seeking to diversify revenue streams, extend guest stays, and appeal to travelers looking for experience-based vacations.

For campground, glamping, and holiday park operators, the proposal reflects a broader trend of integrating complementary amenities into existing businesses rather than developing standalone accommodations. Wellness features such as saunas, yoga spaces, and nature-based experiences can provide additional reasons for guests to visit while creating opportunities for year-round programming, depending on local market demand and operating conditions.

The proposed site would be located in Rockstown, Clonmany, in County Donegal, an area known for its coastal scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. The development is intended to build on the activities already offered through the existing equestrian and adventure center.

Donegal County Council is currently reviewing the application. A decision on the planning proposal is expected by September 3.

If approved, construction would proceed subject to any planning conditions established by the local authority.
