RV Industry Highlights Stargazing Travel, Health Concerns Ahead of National Go RVing Day

Growing interest in stargazing travel experiences and heightened awareness of health and cleanliness concerns are shaping consumer interest in recreational vehicle travel this summer, according to industry trend observations released ahead of National Go RVing Day on June 13.

The trends suggest that travelers are increasingly focused on the experiences and flexibility associated with RV ownership rather than vehicle features alone.

Industry messaging emphasizes the freedom, convenience and control that RV travel can provide as travelers navigate concerns about rising travel costs, crowded destinations and stricter travel environments.

According to a News and Insights report of RVIA, one of the strongest emerging travel drivers is astro-tourism, with travelers planning trips around meteor showers, dark-sky destinations, eclipses and stargazing opportunities.

Airlines have reported increased demand for destinations associated with astro-tourism during the summer travel season.

Industry marketers are being encouraged to connect RV travel with access to remote locations and dark skies, highlighting the ability to move from outdoor stargazing activities directly to overnight accommodations.

Suggested content strategies include showcasing nighttime RV routines, campfires, outdoor living spaces and family activities centered on stargazing and time away from digital devices.

At the same time, growing public awareness of hantavirus and other illnesses is influencing traveler preferences. According to information cited from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hantaviruses are primarily spread through contact with infected rodents.

The increased attention to health and safety has contributed to greater consumer interest in travel options that offer more personal control over cleanliness and surroundings. RV travel is being positioned as an option that allows travelers to manage their own environment and cleaning practices during trips.

Recommended industry outreach includes providing information about RV cleaning procedures, campground hygiene practices and methods for maintaining personal travel spaces.

Marketing efforts are also being directed toward emphasizing the ability of RV travelers to avoid some of the conditions associated with crowded transportation hubs and traditional lodging environments.

Industry stakeholders are additionally being encouraged to engage wellness and travel media with information about how RV travel may appeal to travelers seeking more controlled and comfort-focused vacation experiences.

The trends arrive as National Go RVing Day approaches on Saturday, June 13. The annual observance is being promoted as an opportunity for RV manufacturers, dealers, campgrounds and related businesses to coordinate digital and social media campaigns highlighting RV travel.

Industry participants are also being encouraged to incorporate National Go RVing Day and RV-2-50 marketing materials into their promotional efforts in the weeks leading up to the event.
