The RV Industry Association (RVIA) has released the 2026 edition of its RV Handbook, a guide aligned with the latest NFPA 1192 and National Electrical Code Article 551 standards, with updated enforcement timelines set to take effect later this year.
According to RVIA, The handbook establishes “uniform enforcement” positions based on the 2026 editions of NFPA 1192 and the NEC Article 551 and will be used by the association’s inspection staff during member facility inspections.
The update directly affects RV manufacturers, who must align operations with the revised standards within a defined transition period.
The RVIA Board of Directors has set June 1, as the effective date for in-field use of the updated standards and handbook.
Mandatory enforcement will begin September 1. During the transition period from June through September, the association will apply and promote the new standards while conducting in-field training focused on new or revised requirements.
The association also reiterated compliance requirements tied to membership. Each RV manufacturer must maintain at least one copy of the 2026 NFPA 1192, the 2026 NEC, and the updated handbook at every production campus.
Inspection staff will verify that the latest editions are present during facility inspections.
The handbook is available for purchase through the association’s online store, alongside the NFPA 1192 standard. A digital version of the handbook can be accessed following purchase, as outlined in internal guidance.
The 2026 NEC is available separately through the National Fire Protection Association.
RVIA, which represents more than 500 manufacturers and suppliers, continues to oversee adherence to industry-approved standards through unannounced plant inspections.
The association reports that its members account for 98% of all RVs produced in the United States and approximately 60% of global production.
