Halloween Participation Trends Create Opportunities for Campground Events

Halloween is expanding beyond a single-day holiday, with more than 50% of American families expected to participate in festivities over several weeks leading up to Oct. 31, according to Circana data cited in a recent industry marketing report.

The extended celebration presents opportunities for campgrounds to organize seasonal activities, host community events and incorporate Halloween themes into their marketing campaigns.

Suggested promotional strategies include social media content featuring Halloween activities, on-site events that encourage family participation and email campaigns highlighting nearby seasonal attractions.

According to a News and Insights report of RVIA, for social media, campgrounds can showcase trick-or-treating events, children exchanging candy at picnic tables, community parades featuring children, dogs, golf carts and recreational vehicles, and families decorating their campsites. Images and videos of dogs interacting with visitors at campsites also can feature in seasonal posts.

Campground operators also can organize smaller Halloween-themed activities, including a “Spooky Saturday” event featuring RV decorating contests, pumpkin-carving stations and campsite trick-or-treating routes.

Other suggested activities include inviting families to tour recreational vehicles and creating opportunities for campers to participate in seasonal events together. These activities can incorporate Halloween themes while encouraging interaction among campground guests.

Email newsletters and blog posts offer another way for operators to promote seasonal activities. Suggested topics include nearby haunted attractions, lesser-known Halloween destinations and campgrounds that accommodate recreational vehicles near local attractions.

The marketing recommendations emphasize extending Halloween-related engagement throughout the weeks preceding the holiday rather than concentrating promotional efforts on Oct. 31.
