A proposal to build a multiple-tent campground in Cornucopia will come before the Bayfield County Planning and Zoning Committee for a vote on January 16.
Talitha Goldammer, a resident of Circle Pines, Minnesota, is seeking approval to develop a 17-acre site off Jack Pine Road for the project.
The proposed campground would feature 29 individual tent sites, each measuring roughly 20-by-50 feet, according to plans developed by Spruce Global.
Each site would include a raised wooden platform to support canvas tents, along with outdoor seating and covered fire rings. The project aims to blend the campground into the existing natural landscape by minimizing tree removal.
According to an article published by Ashland Daily Press, Goldammer’s plan also includes a camp building to provide shared amenities. The building would house multiple showers and bathrooms, as well as a community room equipped with a kitchen, hot tub, sauna, and various seating areas.
The second floor of the facility would serve as living quarters for an on-site camp host, providing year-round oversight.
Cornucopia, located along the shores of Lake Superior, is a small community known for its scenic beaches, harbor, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The proposed campground site sits adjacent to the Cornucopia airport, a location that could provide convenient access for visitors arriving by air.
Goldammer’s plans include offering shuttle services for campground guests. The service would transport visitors to local kayak outfitters, shops, restaurants, and beach areas, helping to reduce traffic and alleviate parking congestion in the town’s popular spots.
The Bayfield County Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan 2020-2024 identifies the need for more camping facilities in the Town of Bell, which includes Cornucopia. The plan emphasizes creating environmentally friendly camping options.
