Winnebago Industries Partners with The Nature Conservancy for Conservation Restoration

Winnebago Industries, Inc., a leading outdoor lifestyle product manufacturer, has announced a new strategic partnership with The Nature Conservancy to promote conservation and protect the outdoors.

The partnership focuses on two land and water impact goals: reforestation in Minnesota and blue carbon work in Florida through the Ocean and Coasts Network, as per the News & Insights report of The RV Industry Association (RVIA).

Reforestation Initiative

The reforestation initiative aims to plant trees on previously forested acres in Winnebago Industries’ home state, Minnesota. Reforestation is a cost-effective, natural climate solution that offers multiple benefits, such as clean water and air, wildlife habitat, improved public health, and significant carbon storage.

Jil Littlejohn Bostick, who leads corporate responsibility and inclusion for Winnebago Industries, stated, “As an outdoors company, we are committed to doing our part to protect the environment.”

“We create stronger, more impactful solutions when we partner with leading organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, whose expertise and advocacy is critical to safeguarding places for all to enjoy,” she said.

Blue Carbon Initiative

The Blue Carbon Initiative, part of The Nature Conservancy’s Ocean and Coast Network, promotes wetlands restoration to increase carbon sequestration.

This practice maximizes the carbon storage potential of natural ecosystems and has the dual benefit of prevention and protection for coastlines in the Southeastern United States. The work will be focused in Florida, where Winnebago Industries-owned boatbuilder, Chris-Craft, operates its manufacturing facilities.

We are grateful for Winnebago Industries’ partnership in advancing The Nature Conservancy’s reforestation efforts in Minnesota and our Ocean and Coasts Network’s blue carbon work in my home state of Florida and beyond. Programs like these are helping The Nature Conservancy ensure we have healthy oceans, freshwater and lands, and tackle carbon emissions,” said Nature Conservancy Executive Director Greg Knecht.

Long-term Sustainability Goals

Environmental sustainability and climate resilience are crucial to the long-term sustainability of Winnebago Industries’ business.

The company has committed to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 as part of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C and continues to make progress to advance its zero-waste, water reduction, and product stewardship targets as part of its plan for a low-carbon future and an expanding circular economy.

The RV Industry Connection

Winnebago Industries’ commitment to environmental sustainability is particularly significant in the context of the RV industry. As a prominent manufacturer of recreational vehicles, the company’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and promote conservation initiatives can serve as an example for other industry players.

The partnership between Winnebago Industries and The Nature Conservancy has the potential to create a ripple effect throughout the RV industry.

By demonstrating a commitment to environmental protection and sustainable practices, it can encourage other manufacturers and stakeholders within the industry to adopt similar initiatives, ultimately benefiting both the environment and the communities that rely on the outdoors for recreation and enjoyment.
