Winnebago Industries CEO Honored with Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Michael Happe, the president and CEO of Winnebago Industries, has been honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Heartland Award

Recognized for his bold vision and leadership since joining the company in 2016, Happe has guided Winnebago Industries through a significant evolution driven by both organic and inorganic growth. 

The acquisitions of Grand Design, Chris-Craft, Newmar, and Barletta, as well as the major growth of the flagship brand, Winnebago, have positioned the company as a leader in the outdoor recreation industry.

Happe expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, he “is humbled and honored to be recognized among such a strong group of business leaders from across the region. 

“This award really speaks to the collective effort of the incredible team of employees we have at Winnebago industries who work tirelessly to create lasting memories for families and friends, connecting them with the outdoors, one great adventure at a time,” he said.

The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award winners are selected by an independent judging panel composed of previous award winners, leading CEOs, investors, and other regional business leaders. 

The candidates were evaluated based on their demonstration of building long-term value through entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, growth, and impact, among other core contributions and attributes.

AJ Jordan, EY Americas Entrepreneur Of The Year Program director, praised the 2023 award winners, stating that every year, they are completely blown away by the accomplishments of our Entrepreneur Of The Year Regional Award winners, and 2023 is no different.”

“They are change-makers and champions of business and community, and we are so proud to be honoring them. We can’t wait to see how these leaders will continue to improve lives and disrupt industries,” Jordan said.

Winnebago Industries, founded in 1958, is a leading U.S. manufacturer of outdoor lifestyle products under the Winnebago, Grand Design, Chris-Craft, and Newmar brands, which are used primarily in leisure travel and outdoor recreation activities. 

The company builds quality motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheel products, boats, and commercial community outreach vehicles.
