Paden City Park’s future transformation took center stage during a January 14 meeting at the Paden City Public Library, where renovation concepts were unveiled to enhance the recreational space along the Ohio River.
The Thrasher Group, responding to community input through a resident survey, developed two proposals. The initial concept maintains most existing structures while introducing 10 RV camping spots, new trails, and improved parking areas.
A second, more extensive design proposes 14 RV spaces with a shower house and restroom facilities, additionally suggesting the relocation of the playground nearer to the riverfront to enhance visibility for parents.
According to an article published by Wetzel Chronicle on January 22, Marcus Carnegie from Thrasher Engineering shared that feedback from residents emphasized desires for enhanced restroom facilities, improved river access, and expanded recreational options.
Both proposed designs incorporate essential elements including three fishing piers, expanded pool-area parking, additional picnic shelters, riverside bench swings, and basketball and volleyball courts.
Ron Casto, president of the Paden City Park and Pool Commission, emphasized that implementing the ideas outlined in the final plan would take time. He explained that the City Council holds the authority and financial resources to determine how and when the proposed improvements will move forward, while the commission can only provide recommendations and options to guide their decisions.
“All we can do is give them offers and things like this to help them determine how they want to do it. But it’s all up to our City Council,” Casto said.
Cork Bowen, president of the Paden City Development Authority, also described the proposed concepts as a promising starting point, highlighting their role as a long-term vision for the park’s future.
Bowen also noted that the RV park improvements would serve as a significant revenue source, contributing to the park’s ongoing maintenance and sustainability.
