According to the Methow Valley News, Brett and Joey Ellingson fulfilled a long-held dream when they became the new owners for the Silverline Resort at Pearrygin Lake, Winthrop, Wash.
Joey Ellingson stated, “We have always wanted to own campgrounds since the day we met.”
The Ellingson’s set out to fulfill their dream by contacting Dan and Kristi Brookshire who owned Silverline Resort from 2005 to early 2021. Joey stated that although it wasn’t up for sale at the time, they expressed their interest and kept in touch. After considering retirement for several years, they decided to move into retirement last year. It was a great fit for us all.”
The Ellingson’s met at college in Bellingham and then moved to Chehalis to raise their children. Brett, on the other hand, had a 29-year tenure as a teacher and principal in public schools. Joey, a Chelan native who grew up there, said that they always wanted to return to the area.
It’s not always easy to live the dream, but the Ellingson’s are embracing the challenges of their new life with a positive outlook. “We closed the sale on March 25, 2021. Joey stated that Kristi and Dan stayed for a while to help us learn the ropes and we were ready to open the season in April. It all happened very quickly.
While the Ellingson’s kept the resort open after fire precautions led to the closure of Pearrygin Lake State Park and other outdoor recreation sites, they said quite a few customers canceled their reservations.
Transition assistance
Two of the Ellingsons’ employees, a couple who has lived and worked seasonally at Silverline Resort for six-year, are responsible for the smooth transition to ownership. Joey stated that the couple “helps us learn the reservation system, how we handle the watering schedule for the RV and tent site, how to run the store, and how to manage the waterfront, boat rentals, and how to manage the waterfront.” They also prepare the Wagon Wheel Kitchen’s weekend pancake breakfast, which is all you can eat.
The Ellingsons’ college-aged kids are also employed at the resort, until the fall when school resumes. Methow style, each of the “kids”, as it is called, has other jobs in the valley. The daughter works at Old Schoolhouse Brewery and the son is employed at Pearrygin lake state park.
