Virginia’s Kiptopeke State Park Calls for Volunteers for Cleanup Event on February 24

In a significant initiative to prepare Kiptopeke State Park for the upcoming camping season, park officials have announced a Volunteer Park Cleanup event scheduled for February 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This effort underscores the park’s commitment to maintaining its natural beauty and readiness for visitors seeking outdoor adventures.

“Lend an extra set of hands to help us clean up and prepare the park for camping season this year.”We will need help with trail trimming, minor construction, painting, and beach cleanup. Let us know if you have a special skill in any of those areas so we can find the best project to suit your skills,” Kiptopeke State Park Manager Sean Dixon said.

According to a press release, volunteers are instructed to meet at the park office on the day of the event, where they will be assigned to their respective cleanup tasks. The park will provide the necessary gloves and tools for the activities planned throughout the day. However, participants are advised to bring their water bottles and to dress appropriately for outdoor work, ensuring safety and comfort while contributing to the park’s maintenance efforts.

This volunteer event is not just a call to action for community service but also an opportunity for individuals to engage with the natural environment actively. It represents a chance to contribute to the preservation and enhancement of one of Virginia’s cherished state parks, making it a more inviting space for campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Virginia State Parks are known for their diverse activities and amenities, including more than 1,800 campsites and 300 climate-controlled cabins. The cleanup at Kiptopeke State Park is part of a broader effort to ensure that Virginia’s state parks remain pristine and accessible.

Interested volunteers seeking to participate in the Kiptopeke State Park cleanup are encouraged to contact the park directly at 757-331-2267 or via email at william.ellson@dcr.virginia.gov for more details.
