In a merger of modern comforts and natural surroundings, Timberline Glamping Company is set to open its first Virginia location at Chickahominy Riverfront Park over Memorial Day weekend.
Offering accommodations for those seeking the great outdoors without sacrificing creature comforts, the company was founded in 2018 by Nathan and Rebeka Self, who recognized the need for families to unplug and comfortably spend time in nature.
Operating out of Chickahominy Riverfront Park in James City County, Timberline Glamping Company will feature six luxurious Safari tents equipped with beds, rugs, lamps, comforters, chairs, heating and air conditioning units, electricity outlets, Keurig coffee makers, and mini refrigerators.
Rebeka Self says, “We try to make our canvas Safari tents much like a little hotel room. Our hotel-style beds and bedding are very comfortable, and each site will have a nice big porch facing the Chickahominy River.”
Timberline Glamping Company currently operates in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Megan and Ken Sanders, Smithfield residents, purchased the company’s first franchise to operate in Virginia after the Selfs secured a concessionary partnership with James City County. Megan Sanders is excited to lead the first Timberline Glamping Company franchise in the area.
Megan Sanders shares her journey in the glamping industry, “Back in 2020, I actually started my own glamping business, Cozy Canvas Camping, specializing in setting up outdoor experiences for festivals, parties, weddings, and events.”
“Timberline Glamping Company is actually the first company that inspired me to start any of it. I found out that they were offering franchises at the end of 2021 and called immediately. I am so excited to be a franchisee, and it’s just really cool how this all worked out,” Sanders added.
For glamping business owners, the opening of Timberline Glamping Company’s Virginia location highlights a growing trend in the industry.
As more people seek unique and comfortable outdoor experiences, glamping businesses have an opportunity to expand their reach and cater to a wider audience.
The rise in glamping popularity also signals a shift in consumer preferences towards sustainable, eco-friendly, and experiential travel.
Additionally, many glamping business owners have begun to diversify their offerings with specialized services and unique experiences to stand out in the market.
Collaboration with local businesses, such as offering farm-to-table dining, wine tasting, or outdoor adventures, can further enhance the attractiveness of their establishments. By embracing these opportunities, glamping business owners can position themselves for success in this growing industry.
As Timberline Glamping Company prepares for its Virginia debut, the Selfs and Sanders hope to continue providing memorable experiences for their guests, blending the best of nature and modern comforts. With the ever-growing popularity of glamping, their new venture is sure to be a welcome addition to the Virginia Peninsula’s outdoor hospitality scene.
