Under Canvas and Backroads Reveal New Itineraries, Expanding U.S. National Parks Adventures

Under Canvas, a prominent name in upscale outdoor hospitality, together with Backroads, a leader in luxury active travel, have announced a significant expansion of their joint adventures across various U.S. National Parks.

This strategic move is set to more than triple their collaborative experiences within the next two years, marking a notable development in the outdoor recreation and hospitality industry.

The expansion includes a unique glamping-only itinerary in Southwestern Utah, featuring stays at Under Canvas Bryce Canyon and Under Canvas Zion. This initiative follows the successful partnership that began in 2019 with ventures in Montana’s West Yellowstone and later extended to Tennessee and South Dakota.

The collaboration between Under Canvas and Backroads is a response to the growing demand for immersive outdoor experiences that blend adventure with comfort. The new itineraries are designed to cater to outdoor enthusiasts seeking to explore the natural beauty of the U.S. National Parks while enjoying the comforts of upscale glamping accommodations.

The partnership’s success is rooted in the combination of Backroads’ expertise in active travel and Under Canvas’s luxurious camping facilities. The trips offer a range of activities, allowing guests to experience the scenic landscapes during the day and retreat to comfortable, well-appointed tents by night. This blend of adventure and luxury is a key driver in the growing popularity of glamping and active travel.

Backroads is renowned for its expertly guided trips and offers a variety of daily route options to accommodate different skill levels. The collaboration with Under Canvas enhances these trips by providing high-end camping experiences. These camps are equipped with amenities such as plush king-size beds, luxe linens, ensuite bathrooms, and onsite activities including yoga, stargazing, and live music.

The 2024 trip offerings include a multi-adventure tour in Utah’s Bryce & Zion, a journey through the Black Hills & Badlands National Park, and an exploration of the Great Smoky Mountains. Each of these tours is designed to offer a unique blend of active exploration and glamping luxury.

Libbie Rice, chief commercial officer of Under Canvas, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, emphasizing the goal to offer greater opportunities for travelers to connect with nature. Tom Hale, founder, president & CEO of Backroads, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the positive feedback from guests who have enjoyed the combination of active days and relaxing nights under the stars.

The expansion of Under Canvas and Backroads’ offerings is a significant development in the outdoor hospitality industry. It reflects a growing trend towards experiences that combine the thrill of adventure with the comforts of luxury accommodations. This trend is not only enhancing the appeal of outdoor travel but also contributing to the growth of the outdoor recreation industry.

The new itineraries are available for immediate booking, signaling a step forward in the evolution of outdoor travel. As these companies continue to innovate and expand their offerings, they are setting new standards in the realm of outdoor hospitality and recreation.
