Camping app The Dyrt announced awardees of the 2024 Best Places To Camp Regional Awards, one of the regions in the 2024 Best Places to Camp Regional Awards. These awards spotlight trending and established campgrounds, recognizing locations that have resonated with campers throughout the past year.
Sarah Smith, founder of The Dyrt, commented on the evolving nature of camping, noting it has become a year-round activity. “I still love May because it’s the traditional beginning of the camping season, and we get to unveil our annual lists of the Best Places to Camp in each region of the country,” Smith said in a press release.
The top places in the Central Region for 2024 include “The Wall” in Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, South Dakota; Scoria Pit, North Dakota; Neches Bluff Overlook Campground, Texas; Big Pine Campground, South Dakota; Juniper Campground in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota; Riverfront Campground at Ponca State Park, Nebraska; Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma; RD 356 Dispersed Site in Black Hills National Forest, South Dakota; Wilson State Park Campground, Kansas; and Inks Lake State Park, Texas.
Smith noted that this year’s lists feature private campgrounds that are increasingly focused on enhancing amenities to meet camper demands while still preserving the experience of nature. She added that free camping locations on some of the country’s most naturally beautiful lands are prominently featured on this year’s lists.
For the past three years, “The Wall” has consistently ranked in the top two in its region. Additionally, Scoria Pit and Neches Bluff Overlook are recognized for providing some of the best-dispersed camping experiences in the nation, while Big Pine Campground is known to offer a blend of comfort with the beauty of the Black Hills.
One camper, Kristi D., recounted her experience at Juniper Campground: “We weren’t even here and parked … 15 minutes later, and three bison came right past my camper. I knew we would see them, but wow!!! I was in awe.”
Additionally, The Dyrt’s 2024 Camping Report, sponsored by the All-New Toyota Tacoma, revealed that almost 85 million Americans engaged in camping activities last year. The report also indicates that the definition of “the perfect camping trip” varies widely.
Kevin Long, CEO of The Dyrt, emphasized the diversity of camping experiences, noting that the Best Places to Camp Regional Awards offer something for everyone across various regions. He suggested that these lists could serve as an invitation for people to explore new areas.
“Now’s the time for all the people who have discovered camping in the past few years to really spread their wings and take their love of camping to the next level. Get on the road this summer and check these places out!” Long added.
The Dyrt offers an array of resources, including user-generated reviews and photos for RV sites, cabins, glamping spots, and tent camping locations across the U.S., covering both public and private sectors.
