While high gas prices can be an advantage for those working in the outdoor recreation field, some in the industry say they would still want to see the prices drop.
According to a report, pelicans aren’t the only ones flocking towards Wright Patman Lake in Bowie and Cass counties. Many people are visiting the park now that the winter weather subsided.
“Boaters have been up, campers have been up, and just people getting out in nature is going up. We’re doing really good out here,” said Logan Lovelace, park ranger.
Lovelace stated that all this is despite rising gasoline prices. The high cost pushed people to go outside to enjoy and have fun, and the people who sell recreational vehicles say that business is good.
Allen Rogers has owned and operated Roger’s Marine for 55 years. He sells and consumes gasoline, which costs him more to maintain. However, he feels that concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic are leading more people to overlook the prices.
“I have no complaint about the sales we’ve had. So, they are coming to our store and buying ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, boats, motors, and trailers,” Rogers said.
While the business is positive for his industry, Rogers said he wishes things could return to normal even if it costs him sales.
“I would like to see people happy, coming in buying stuff. Maybe not as much, but they wouldn’t be scared to go use it. They wouldn’t mind taking their friend boating, they wouldn’t mind going on motorcycle rides with people,” he said.
