Big Rig Friendly RV Resort Enhances Family Fun with Pool Additions

In the picturesque landscapes of South Carolina, Big Rig Friendly RV Resort is a destination that awaits RV enthusiasts. Known for its amenities that blend shade and privacy, the resort has taken significant steps to enhance the guest experience.

In an exclusive interview with Modern Campground, co-owners D. Melton and Bill McLeod unveiled the addition of new pools aimed at attracting a diverse range of visitors and enhancing the outdoor experience for families and guests of all ages.

“We wanted to fulfill the demand for an upscale RV resort in the Central Carolinas,” Melton shared. “Our mission was to find the perfect location and build a destination RV resort. Here at Big Rig Friendly, we have created it with top-notch amenities and super large sites. Here, we can accommodate any size RV traveling on the roads.”

The new pools are a key component of the resort’s amenities, creating a “much-desired attraction.” Melton emphasized that the pools are part of their overall mission to establish a destination RV resort.

“Our two pools are, by design, located next to our large clubhouse, playground, and pickleball courts at the highest elevation of our park. So, as you enjoy the pools, you have a view and closeness to the amenities,” he explained.

However, building the pools did not proceed without challenges. McLeod highlighted the logistical concerns and the significant investment involved in constructing the pools.

He mentioned that building a pool was one of the most difficult and demanding construction projects they had faced, involving permitting, construction, and engineering.

Despite these challenges, they decided the project was important enough to allocate resources and capital, and the feedback has been positive.

We offer a full gym, pickleball, etc., and we see a pool as a necessity if we are going to attract high-end customers,” McLeod told Modern Campground.

In selecting the pool’s location, the owners considered its proximity to the clubhouse, playground, and pickleball courts. This placement also enabled them to incorporate an approximately 600-square-foot covered area for shade and relaxation.

Safety First at Big Rig Friendly

Another aspect of the pool design is safety. McLeod emphasized the importance of safety, detailing several measures to ensure guest well-being. He mentioned that they have self-locking gates, clear signage, and camera monitoring in the pool areas.

Additionally, they provide a lift for anyone needing assistance getting into the pool and a large shade building adjacent to the pool area.

“We built the kid pool for the smaller kids and their parents to enjoy separately. We ask everyone to follow all of our rules and regulations that are posted throughout the swimming pool area to create a safe atmosphere for everyone. Also, we have a complete bathhouse located within the pool area,” Melton added.

Embracing Green Initiatives

In addition to prioritizing safety, Big Rig Friendly RV Resort ensures sustainability at the RV park. The park has retained as much of the natural surroundings, such as trees, bushes, and shrubs, as possible. Additionally, it uses solar lighting along the street areas.

“We love our trees and green areas, and we devote significant time and personnel to keeping our resort green and attractive. We kept a lot of the natural flora and trees in place for shade and beauty,” McLeod told Modern Campground.

Vision for Growth

Looking to the future, Big Rig Friendly RV Resort is continuously expanding. According to Melton, the park is currently working on its third phase, which will add an additional 33 sites. Upon completion, the park will have approximately 277 sites.

“We foresee this happening very fast as the demand has been very strong and continuous. Being a destination resort with full amenities is a huge draw for the entire Columbia area, located just 3 miles off Interstate I-26 and I-77 and just 10 miles from downtown Columbia and the University of South Carolina,” Melton explained.

McLeod echoed this optimism. He mentioned that they are continually working to improve the resort by keeping up to date with technology and amenities. Additionally, they currently have Campground Views setting up virtual tours in the park.

We have Campground Views in our park currently setting up our virtual tours so customers can do a virtual drive-thru and we can also send them a link to their site, allowing them to do a virtual drive-around to see the area around the site they reserve,” McLeod added.
