Registration for the 2025 George O’Leary National School of Outdoor Hospitality has officially opened, with the program scheduled to take place from February 23-28, 2025, at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia. This week-long in-person event offers outdoor hospitality professionals the opportunity to develop critical business and operational skills while networking with industry peers.
The event will provide participants with hands-on learning experiences led by industry experts. The curriculum focuses on business management principles specifically tailored to the outdoor hospitality industry.
Attendees can expect to enhance their understanding of day-to-day operations, marketing strategies, employee training, and risk management, all while gaining tools to improve their businesses.
According to a press release, Erica Edmonds, general manager of Sun Outdoors Salt Lake City, reflected on her experience at the 2023 session, highlighting the program’s impact on industry professionals.
“The school brings together a diverse group of attendees, from family-owned parks to corporate operators. By the end of the week, the energy and enthusiasm were so high, no one wanted to leave,” Edmonds explained.
For first-year attendees, the program offers the Outdoor Hospitality Manager (OHM) track, which covers essential topics such as marketing, and standard operating procedures. Year 1 students will also receive training in employee development, guest safety, and operational efficiency.
In contrast, year 2 students will follow the Outdoor Hospitality Professional (OHP) track. This advanced course builds on previous knowledge, delving into more complex topics like employment law, finance opportunities, and strategic planning.
Both tracks lead to the achievement of certifications, with participants earning either the Outdoor Hospitality Manager (OHM) or Outdoor Hospitality Professional (OHP) certificate upon completion of their respective coursework.
The registration fee includes five nights of lodging at Oglebay Resort, all classroom materials, meals, and access to a banquet dinner on the final evening of the program. According to the press release, space is limited, and interested participants are encouraged to register early to secure their spots before registration closes.
