RVshare’s 2024 Travel Trend Report Anticipates a Transformational Year for Outdoor Travel

RVshare, a platform for RV owners and renters, has released its 2024 Travel Trend Report, providing invaluable insights for campground, glamping, and RV park owners, as well as outdoor hospitality operators. The report, conducted by Wakefield Research and commissioned by RVshare, foresees a momentous shift in travel behavior in the year ahead, offering crucial information for industry stakeholders.

The report’s findings reveal a remarkable 86% of Americans intend to maintain or increase their travel plans in 2024, with 44%aiming to elevate their travel experiences. However, the report indicates substantial changes in travel motivations and patterns compared to the previous year.

In 2023, international leisure travel saw record-breaking numbers as travelers embarked on bucket list adventures to destinations like Europe and Asia. Yet, only 24% of survey participants plan to take more international trips in 2024. Instead, the focus for the year ahead seems to be on simplicity, quality time, wellness, and rejuvenation during travel.

This shift in traveler preferences offers essential insights for campground and outdoor hospitality operators. With 49% of travelers seeking laid-back trips focused on relaxation and 43 planning annual getaways with family or friends, operators can tailor their offerings to cater to these desires.

Furthermore, as the report indicates a growing interest in domestic travel, campground owners can prepare for increased demand by enhancing their facilities and amenities to provide a serene and welcoming environment for travelers looking to escape crowds.

One standout trend identified in the report is the sustained popularity of RV travel. Nearly 60% of respondents plan a road trip or RV vacation in the next 12 months, with 62% prioritizing destinations away from bustling crowds. This underscores the importance of campgrounds and RV parks in accommodating these travelers.

RVshare’s unique RV delivery option remains highly sought after, with 78% of travelers more inclined to consider an RV stay if the vehicle is delivered to their chosen destination in advance. Campground operators can partner with RV rental services like RVshare to enhance their offerings and attract a broader range of visitors.

Jon Gray, CEO of RVshare, emphasized, “Americans want to spend time outdoors, whether seeking adventure or relaxation, and RVshare’s extensive inventory of RVs, campers, and more, along with our trip-booking technology, provides access for all types of travel.

The report highlights five key travel trends for 2024:

Solar Eclipse Draws Travelers: The total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, is set to attract travelers, with over half of Americans considering a journey to the path of totality. This presents an opportunity for campground owners and outdoor hospitality operators along the eclipse path to cater to visitors seeking this breathtaking celestial event.

Embracing AI for Travel Planning: RVshare’s introduction of a ChatGPT travel plug-in for renters offers a glimpse into the potential of AI in travel planning. With 63% of travelers interested in AI-based tools, campgrounds can explore integrating such technologies to enhance the booking and planning experience for their guests.

“Take Me Away” Travel: The report highlights a growing desire for surprise elements in travel, with 75% of travelers open to having at least one aspect of their trip be a surprise. Campgrounds can consider offering unique and unexpected experiences to cater to this trend.

From RVing to EVing: Half of travelers view electric RV trips positively, citing cost savings and environmental benefits. Campground and RV park owners can prepare for this emerging trend by offering electric vehicle charging infrastructure and collaborating with electric RV rental providers.

RV Travel’s Mass Appeal: Interest in RV travel remains robust, with 57% of travelers planning an RV trip in the coming year. Campground operators should ensure their facilities are equipped to accommodate the specific needs of RV travelers.

The insights from RVshare’s 2024 Travel Trend Report provide a valuable resource for campground, glamping, and RV park owners, as well as outdoor hospitality operators. By aligning their offerings with these emerging travel trends, industry professionals can position themselves for success in the evolving landscape of outdoor travel.
