The RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) State Government Affairs team attended the National Conference of State Legislatures’ 2024 Legislative Summit in Louisville.

This state legislative event in the U.S. attracted over 5,300 participants, including legislators, legislative staff, lobbyists, exhibitors, and government affairs professionals from across the nation.

During the event, the association’s team, alongside the National Marine Manufacturers Association, networked with legislators and legislative staff from more than 20 states. They showcased a Class B motorhome, providing policymakers with an example of the RV industry’s offerings while discussing key industry priorities.

“The Summit gives us the opportunity to talk about pressing issues that legislators and legislatures more broadly need to be aware of, such as state franchise laws and the importance of pull-through EV charging infrastructure,” Michael Ochs, RVIA’s director of state government affairs said in a News & Insights report of RVIA.

The summit also serves as a planning venue for the RVIA’’s legislative efforts for 2025 legislative sessions. According to Ochs, “Preparing for legislative sessions really kicks off when we attend the summit. We’re deciding which states to focus on throughout 2025 and then we make the effort to meet with those legislators while we’re here.”

Ochs also explained that this early preparation enables the team to be ready in January for the start of legislative sessions, allowing them to identify partners to collaborate with in specific states and continue building those relationships during the sessions.

According to its website, RVIA represents a $140 billion industry that includes more than 500 manufacturers and component suppliers. These members are responsible for producing 98% of the RVs made in the United States and about 60% of those manufactured globally. RVIA provides research, data, and analysis related to the RV industry.

The association also ensures compliance with numerous safety and quality standards, covering areas such as plumbing, heating, fire safety, and electrical systems.
