Sustainability Meets Seaside Luxury at Two Capes Lookout on Oregon’s Rugged Coast

Nestled between Cape Kiwanda and Cape Lookout on Oregon’s rugged coastline, Two Capes Lookout offers guests an intimate retreat that feels far removed from the everyday while remaining conveniently close to Pacific City and within a two-hour drive of Portland.

Spanning 58 acres, the property blends coastal forest, wetlands, and ocean vistas, creating an immersive escape rooted in nature.

Managed by Caraventure under the leadership of Quentin Incao, who is also the CEO of Q Hospitality Management, Two Capes Lookout stands as the company’s first managed glamping resort.

Incao described the vision as providing guests with a “first of its kind in Oregon” experience, where nature and comfort meet under the stars without sacrificing convenience.

Designed for Comfort, Built for the View

Visitors will find 15 geodesic domes and four mirror cabins tucked into the Sitka spruce forest.  Each unit is positioned intentionally to maximize the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the iconic headlands flanking the site.

Every geodesic dome and mirror cabin at Two Capes Lookout comes equipped with extra comforts, including Oregon-made bath products by Dani, a curated selection of coffee and tea, outdoor seating areas with personal fire fit, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

“This amazing ocean and cape-to-cape view from almost all domes and cabins, whether from bed or outside by the fire pit, was purposeful,” Incao said in an exclusive interview with Modern Campground.

The property’s unique location on the side of a mountain overlooking both capes deeply influenced its design and atmosphere.

The retreat’s layout ensures that the natural landscape dictates the guest experience, with windows and outdoor spaces oriented westward to capture Oregon’s famed coastal sunsets.

A Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Environmental stewardship is also a guiding principle behind the resort’s development and daily operations.

Two Capes Lookout was designed to minimize its ecological footprint by using existing logging roads and keeping building footprints small.

“By utilizing existing logging roads and creating small-footprint dome and cabin sites, we are ensuring that the natural landscape remains as undisturbed as possible,” Two Capes Lookout indicates on its website.

Preserving the coastal forest was another priority. Forty acres of forest remain untouched, providing habitat for local wildlife and maintaining the natural balance of the area. Nearly two acres of wetlands are also protected, contributing to clean water filtration and shelter for native species.

Materials used across the resort reflect a commitment to sustainability. Local resources were prioritized during construction, and when trees did have to be removed, they were repurposed as furniture for the domes and community spaces.

Outdoor furniture made from recycled high-density polyethylene highlights this ethos of reusing and repurposing wherever possible.

Guest movement throughout the site was also considered with care for the land and atmosphere. To preserve tranquility and reduce noise, vehicle traffic is restricted within the north cape section.

Instead, guests are transported to their accommodations by electric carts, which also ferry children, pets, and luggage.

The focus on sustainability extends to daily operations. Electric vehicles are used for housekeeping and maintenance, further lowering the property’s carbon footprint.

The commitment to sustainability at Two Capes Lookout aligns closely with findings from the April 2024 report by Modern Campground and Cairn Consulting Group, which highlights that over half of leisure travelers believe sustainable practices enhance their experience.

While factors like quality, price, and service still weigh more heavily in travelers’ choices, the report notes that about half of guests would prefer to stay at a campground that actively implements eco-friendly measures.

By preserving coastal forests and wetlands, restricting vehicle traffic, and using local materials and electric vehicles, Two Capes Lookout not only protects its natural surroundings but also responds directly to the growing traveler preference for environmentally responsible stays, without compromising the comfort and convenience that today’s guests expect.

Incao also described Two Capes Lookout’s primary guests as people seeking a distinctive coastal stay immersed in nature within easy reach of Portland.

The blend of luxury, quiet surroundings, and constant ocean sounds creates what Incao calls an experience meant “to bring the ‘ahhhh’ out of you.”

Though only four months into operations, the resort has already caught the attention of travelers and the media. It was featured in Travel + Leisure within its first month, recently featured in USA Today 10Best, and maintains a 4.7-star Google rating thanks to the efforts of the on-site team led by General Manager Zack Smith.

As Two Capes Lookout heads into its first summer season, the goal is to build year-round lodging demand by sharing its story widely.

Caraventure’s Broader Vision for Outdoor Hospitality

Beyond Two Capes Lookout, Caraventure plans to expand its collection of third-party managed, unique outdoor hospitality destinations across the United States.

The company aims to carve out a niche managing upscale RV parks and glamping resorts, combining its team’s extensive luxury hotel background with the laid-back charm of nature-based stays.

“What makes Caraventure different is our experience, background, and approach,” Incao said, noting that many other operators lack deep roots in luxury hospitality. He believes this blend of expertise sets the company apart, especially when managing higher-end properties.

Caraventure’s management services range from daily operations and revenue management to marketing, guest services, and maintenance.

According to Incao, this comprehensive approach allows property owners to focus on broader business goals while trusting Caraventure to uphold high standards on-site.

“We also focus on bringing a level of service, guest experience, and attention to detail that may typically be found in smaller independent hotels, with an additional focus on user-friendly integrated cloud-based tech and a strong focus on supporting and empowering our onsite team,” he said.
