The year’s figures closely approach the historic peak of 53 million visits set in 2021, positioning 2023 as the fourth busiest year for camping within the state park system.
Among the most frequented locations were Harris Beach Recreation Area, Ecola State Park, Oswald West State Park, Maud Williamson State Recreation Site, Lewis and Clark Recreation Site, Clyde Holiday State Recreation Site, and Farewell Bend State Recreation Site. Officials noted that visitor numbers might have climbed even higher had Beverly Beach State Park and Bullards Beach State Park not been temporarily closed for construction.
The parks that saw the most significant increases in attendance include Detroit Lake State Park, Milo McIver State Park, Prineville Reservoir State Park, and Lake Owyhee State Park.
