The Blooming Hill Farm project, which aims to establish a farm-to-table restaurant and luxury outdoor accommodations, returned to the New Windsor Planning Board for further consideration. No decisions were made on the project, but it is anticipated to return to the planning board at one of their upcoming meetings in August.
The project, first introduced in September 2023, initially proposed developing a 187-acre apple orchard on Shaw Road, in New Windsor.
The latest iteration of the project includes plans for additional land to be utilized for upscale outdoor accommodations. This expansion evolves the original concept, which focused primarily on the restaurant and agricultural aspects of the development.
According to an article published by Hudson Valley Times on July 17, Lanc & Tully Engineer John Queenan, representing the project, explained to the planning board that the farm now owns two lots, which they plan to consolidate into one. The original application for Blooming Hill Farm remains unchanged, with the new tented area being an additional feature.
The project’s expansion includes a proposal for 77 tents designed for short-term stays, provided by Under Canvas, a company known for upscale outdoor hospitality. Under Canvas provides various tent options, including Suite Tents, Stargazer Tents, and Safari Tents, typically equipped with luxurious amenities such as king-size beds, wood-burning stoves, and private bathrooms.
The proposed outdoor area is set to include a reception area, communal food services, and fire pits. The tents would be spread throughout the property, positioned 50 to 75 feet apart. These facilities would be available for both the general public and larger parties hosting events at the venue.
In June 2022, an informal public hearing was held to gather initial feedback from the community. The session saw support from neighbors and residents who welcomed the idea of bringing the project to New Windsor.
The proposed Blooming Hill Farm with additional tents illustrates the importance of adding upscale offerings to attract a diverse audience. By introducing luxury tents, developers can provide a blend of comfort and nature, appealing to both traditional campers and those looking for a more luxurious stay.
