National Park Week: Visitors Can Visit Any National Parks for Free on April 16

The National Park Service hosts National Park Week from April 16 to 24, with more than 400 national parks joining the celebration. The service will waive all entrance fees to kick off the week on the first day.

“National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places, discover stories of history and culture, help out, and find your park,” the National Park Service said. “Parks across the country will host a variety of special programs, events, and digital experiences.”

Over 100 National Park Service sites charge an entrance fee of $5 to $35. However, visitors would not have to pay any entrance fees during the upcoming celebration and three other days.

The remaining dates for the free entrance fees are August 4, Thursday, which is the Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act; September 24, Saturday, which is the National Public Lands Day; and November 11, Friday, which is Veteran’s Day.

“Whether on an entrance fee-free day or throughout the year, we encourage everyone to discover their national parks and the benefits that come from spending time outdoors,” National Park Service Director Chuck Sams said in a news release. “National parks are for everyone, and we are committed to increasing access.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic wanes, more people have begun visiting national parks in the past year. According to the park service, recreational visits sat at 297 million in 2021, up from 237 million in 2020.
