The Preserve LLC, a local business in Marquette County (Michigan), is seeking a conditional use permit to build a new 50-site campground on 80 acres of land in Sands Township. The proposal was presented to the Sands Township Planning Commission at a recent board meeting.
The campground, located in the Rock Cut in Chocolay Township, would provide a unique camping experience for residents and tourists alike.
Jeremy Johnson, co-owner of The Preserve LLC, stated that the site has significant historical and geological value and that the development would allow for the land to be enjoyed by everyone. The company’s goal is to open up the land to the community in the right way and preserve it for future generations.
“There’s a lot of historical value there, geological value there, and we want to open that up to the community in the right way,” said Johnson.
“This development would allow for that and also preserve the land. We hope that we can work with Sands Township and the State of Michigan to make this happen.”
According to a report by Marquette WLUC, the Sands Township Planning Commission tabled the discussion on the conditional use permit, and they will respond to The Preserve LLC within 30 days. If approved, The Preserve LLC will then apply for a campground construction permit with the State of Michigan.
The campground would be a welcome addition to the nearby area, as it would provide a new option for campers.
The proposed campground would also provide an opportunity for residents and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of the area while supporting local businesses. Camping is a popular outdoor activity, and the addition of a new campground would attract more visitors to the area.
As the number of camping public continues to increase, there is also continued demand for more campsites. Building campgrounds is one way to address this need.
