The Fields of Michigan Announces Major Capacity Expansion Ahead of 2026 Season

Following its inaugural season as part of the Outdoor Collection by Under Canvas, The Fields of Michigan has announced a major expansion and a series of guest experience updates scheduled to debut for the 2026 operating season.

The investment will more than double the property’s accommodation capacity and includes new lodging inventory, upgraded communal areas, expanded food and beverage operations, and enhanced retail offerings.

“The expansion of The Fields of Michigan reflects Under Canvas’s ongoing commitment to its guests and the growing demand for increased capacity across the Outdoor Collection,” Sean Rush, chief operating officer for Under Canvas, said in a press release

“This next phase allows us to thoughtfully expand accommodations and communal spaces, while staying true to the immersive design, sense of calm, and deep connection to nature that define both The Fields of Michigan and Under Canvas.”

As part of the expansion, the property has added 26 new tent accommodations, increasing total glamping inventory to 45 tents alongside nine cottages. Existing accommodations have also undergone updates aimed at maintaining consistency across the site.

Lodging features include king-size beds, interior climate control through air conditioning and electric fireplaces, ensuite bathrooms with rainfall-style showers, and private outdoor decks. Design elements draw on mid-century modern styling adapted for the natural setting of southwest Michigan.

The Fields of Michigan has also introduced updated communal spaces intended to support higher guest volumes and longer stays. A redesigned gathering area known as The Willow now includes a screened-in porch, shared dining tables, and lounge seating, with programming planned throughout the day, including morning coffee service and evening social hours.

A separate social hub, The Outpost, provides complimentary access to outdoor gear such as bicycles, yoga mats, and hiking poles, reducing barriers for guests seeking on-site and nearby recreation.

Food and beverage operations have been expanded to align with the increased capacity. The property now offers complimentary daily breakfast, with service available indoors or outdoors depending on conditions.

Dinner service is available daily at the café between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., while a Supper Club dining experience operates Thursday through Sunday. Full espresso service is also available at the lobby bar. These changes reflect a broader industry trend toward on-property dining as a driver of guest satisfaction and secondary revenue.

A curated retail space has been added, offering outdoor essentials and branded merchandise, as well as grab-and-go food and beverage options for guests exploring the surrounding Lake Michigan region.

The expanded infrastructure also allows the property to host private events, including weddings, retreats, and group gatherings, which remain an important revenue stream for upscale outdoor accommodations.

The Fields of Michigan will operate for the 2026 season from April 30 through November 1. The property is located on a working blueberry farm near South Haven, Michigan, and remains part of Under Canvas’s growing Outdoor Collection, which focuses on nature-based accommodations distinct from its core national park-adjacent portfolio.

For outdoor hospitality operators, the expansion offers insight into how established brands are scaling capacity while maintaining design consistency, diversifying on-site amenities, and extending shoulder-season demand through enhanced guest services.
