RV Park Proposal in Fife Lake Denied For Rezoning Request After Community Opposition

In Fife Lake, a community in Grand Traverse County, Michigan, a proposal for a new RV park received strong opposition from residents, according to an UpNorth Live news report. The proposal was denied, rejecting a rezoning request for the RV park.

The RV park, which would have been located on State Street near US-131, was proposed to accommodate over a hundred RVs. However, the lack of a detailed site plan and the preliminary nature of the proposals were pointed out.

“I would like to make a motion to deny the conditional zoning map amendment as recommended by the Fife Lake Area Planning Commission. And to amend the property parcel number 410-401-1000 from R1 residential to C2 highway commercial,” Fife Lake Village Council Trustee Lisa Magee said.

The project was in its conceptual phase, with many steps remaining before it could proceed, including significant conditional research and community consultation. The report explained the absence of a concrete site plan.

The decision to deny the zoning change does not preclude the possibility of future proposals for developing the land. The ongoing work on the Fife Lake master plan suggests that changes to the use of this plot are still under consideration, leaving the door open for alternative development projects.
