South Higgins Lake State Park, a popular destination in Michigan, has announced the opening of a new dog beach.
This addition marks the second dog-friendly beach in the park, providing more space for visitors and their four-legged companions to enjoy the park’s natural beauty.
The new beach is located on the campground side of the park, adjacent to the lagoon. The park’s other pet-friendly beach is situated along a section of shoreline in the day-use area, which lies along the park’s eastern boundary.
It is important to note that all animals, including dogs, must be on a 6-foot leash, even when they are in the water.
South Higgins Lake State Park, spanning 1,364 acres, is situated on one mile of shoreline along Higgins Lake.
The lake is renowned for its clarity, fishing potential, and recreational boating. The park features one of the largest Michigan state park campgrounds, a popular boat launch, and a day-use area.
Additionally, the park is home to Marl Lake, a smaller, shallower, and less developed lake located on the southern side of the park across County Road 100. Marl Lake is surrounded by 5.5 miles of wooded trails, offering visitors a tranquil retreat.
