Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Port Austin (Michigan) welcomes a new destination for summer tourists with the opening of Bird Creek RV Resort. Located in the Thumb area, the resort offers a serene setting for visitors to experience the best of outdoor hospitality.
Perry Heleski, the owner, recently obtained a permit from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy to operate the resort. Designed to accommodate up to 65 campers, the resort features fire pits and a main entrance accessible from M-25. A limited number of campsites have been reserved for seasonal guests, while the remainder is available for daily camping.

Each site at the resort includes sewer and water, 50 amp/30 amp electric (each site will be metered and charged for their use), a concrete pad, a concrete patio, a hard-surfaced road, and gated resort access. In addition, the resort provides lawn care and a garbage dumpster, with a laundromat available in the bathhouse. Extra parking is available for boat or car storage, with fees starting at $20 per month.
Nestled in Huron County, Port Austin is a picturesque village in Michigan with a population of 622 according to the 2020 census. The village offers stunning attractions such as Turnip Rock, located on Point Aux Barques, and the sandy beaches of Port Crescent State Park.
Port Austin has also been home to notable individuals such as illustrator and caricaturist V. Floyd Campbell, anthropologist Napoleon Chagnon, and Yale professor and writer William Lyon Phelps, who was a summer resident before becoming a permanent resident in 1933.
