December 7 Episode Recap
This week’s episode of MC Fireside Chats was hosted by special guest Jenna Celmer, President, Co-Founder and Chief Community Officer of Basecamp, filling in for the usual hosts Brian Searl and Cara Csizmadia.
Celmer was joined by returning guests Intrepid Group CEO Randy Hendrickson, Horizon Outdoor Hospitality CEO Scott Foos, Campspot Vice President for Business Development Casey Cochran, Campground Views Founder and CEO Mark Koep, and RV industry advisor Sandy Ellingson for an open discussion on the outdoor hospitality industry, reflecting on the topics of experiential hospitality and work culture.
Celmer prompted the experts to discuss their fondest memory of their time in the industry with most of the group looking back at how they started in the industry and falling in love with the industry’s work culture.
Hendrickson noted how the “care gene” of the industry keeps him moving forward with Foos adding that it is vital to have that team-first mentality and ensure that team members are well taken care of.
“The more that you really think about investing in your team, and the more that you truly understand that your team drives your business,” Foos said.
The conversation on having a people-focused mindset in the industry moved to how it is carried over into the client-facing aspect of the business and how the industry is striving to provide quality guest experiences.
Cochran explained that creating a culture and providing the “experience” starts within the staff and team members.
“We are moving into a season where we are competing across so many different kinds of markets now, especially with the growth of glamping and some of the things we’re seeing there, that understanding the definition of experiential Camping and understanding what that is is super important just to help get the guests there for the first time,” commented Ellingson.
To add to this Koep emphasized that effectively communicating with guests is key in order to provide a unique experience.
