This year-round family campground is operated by the 66th Force Support Squadron in Bedford, Massachusetts, for military-connected personnel.

With 73 RV sites and 10 tent sites, the campground is surrounded by historic towns such as Lexington, Concord, and Lincoln, and is situated 15 miles west of Boston, guests can take advantage of numerous local attractions and activities during their stay.

On-site amenities at FamCamp include 50/30/20 amp services, an outdoor pavilion, a recreation room, Wi-Fi, picnic areas, on-site propane, coin-operated laundry, two bathhouses, 24-hour management, pet-friendly facilities, dump stations, hiking trails, and rail trails.

Recently, FamCamp employees completed a self-help revitalization effort to improve the recreation room and office space.

“With the recent completion of this project, we have improved the camping experience for those who visit,” said Jenn Hassey, FamCamp manager.

According to Colson, one of the many benefits of staying at the facility is its location.

“Boston is only 18 miles east of Hanscom Air Force Base and offers a lot of activities throughout the year, especially during the summer months,” she said.

Hanscom FamCamp is an ideal destination for military families seeking to reconnect while enjoying the beauty of the great outdoors.

The outdoor recreation industry as a whole has seen a significant surge in demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Camping, hiking, and other outdoor pursuits have become more popular than ever. This has led to a boom in sales of outdoor equipment and increased bookings at campgrounds and RV parks.

In response to the growing demand, outdoor recreation businesses have been quick to adapt, offering new products and services to cater to the changing needs of consumers.

The growth in the outdoor recreation industry presents an opportunity for businesses to further develop and innovate their offerings.

To capitalize on this trend, private campground operators may consider investing in modern amenities, such as Wi-Fi connectivity, electric vehicle charging stations, and updated restroom facilities, to meet the evolving expectations of today’s outdoor enthusiasts.

Furthermore, businesses could explore partnerships with local tourism boards and adventure companies to create unique, tailored experiences for their guests.

By staying attuned to the shifting preferences of consumers and offering a diverse range of outdoor experiences, the outdoor recreation industry can continue to thrive and maintain its newfound momentum in a post-pandemic world.
