Kampgrounds of America (KOA) continues to strengthen its presence in the camping and outdoor hospitality sector with the addition of newly opened campgrounds. This year, the company has expanded its portfolio with 10 new locations, consisting of five newly constructed campgrounds and five conversions of existing parks.
Additionally, KOA has secured seven new franchise agreements, comprising six conversions of independent parks and one new construction, further driving its expansion across North America.
The newly opened KOA locations for 2024 include Panama City Beach KOA Holiday, Marion/Shawnee National Forest KOA Holiday, Cave Junction KOA Journey, Grande Prairie KOA Journey, Crystal River KOA Journey, Calcutta/West Point KOA Journey, Drumheller/Dinosaur Trail KOA Holiday, McKinney North/Celina KOA Holiday, Franklin Furnace/Ohio River KOA Journey, and Lincoln West KOA Holiday.
KOA also reported 10 campground resales occurring throughout 2024. According to a press release, this indicates “the power of the KOA brand as new owners entering the camping space seek a strong and experienced franchise partner.”
Chris Fairlee, chief acquisitions officer at KOA, noted the “growing investment” in the camping industry. “The recent new builds and conversions demonstrate the value the KOA brand holds in the marketplace. KOA is constantly striving to be the go-to partner for franchisees throughout every stage of their business journey,” Fairlee said.
Fairlee mentioned that the KOA team expressed pride in their achievements in 2024 and anticipates continued growth in both campground conversions and new construction projects as the year progresses.
The company’s commitment also ensures that franchisees are equipped to meet changing consumer preferences. KOA’s offerings include marketing programs, campground design consultation, and research into camper behavior and trends. This approach helps franchisees attract and help them grow their businesses.
KOA is dedicated to “connecting people to the outdoors and each other.” With its two distinct brands, KOA and Terramor Outdoor Resorts, the company offers brand visibility and support to campground owners in areas such as education, design, recruitment, marketing, and technology.
With over 60 years of experience, KOA is the “world’s largest system” of privately owned, publicly accessible campgrounds, featuring more than 500 franchised and owned locations. Additionally, KOA demonstrates a commitment to outdoor recreation access through its Kampgrounds of America Foundation. The foundation allocates 1% of pre-tax profits to initiatives that enhance opportunities for outdoor engagement.
