Indiana Dunes National Park will host the Logs to Lustrons Tour on June 25, giving visitors the chance to see and learn everything from rustic landmarks to Mid-Century Modern.
The day features log structures of early settlement days, frame homes from the Victorian period, and mid-century homes of glass, stucco, and metal, according to a news release.
Indiana Landmarks and the National Park Service work together to show 17 sites span a century of architectural history, including restored residences not normally open to the public and vacant landmarks in need of new use. Nine interiors will be available for touring.
Tour shuttles will depart every 15 minutes from the Bailly Homestead and Chellberg Farm parking lot beginning at 8:30 AM, with the last tour departing at 2:00 PM Central Time. The tour lasts approximately three hours, depending on how much time visitors spend at each site.
Shuttles will be available during the entire tour, meaning visitors will have time to visit sites they are interested in. The tour sites will close according to the sequence of the tour. The tour begins at 2:30 PM. All sites will are closed by 5 PM Central Time.
Reservations are required, and there is a fee of $30 for adults and $25 for Indiana Landmark’s members, while children under 16 are free but must make a reservation.
Boxed Lunches are available for an additional $12 to participants on tour between 11 AM and 1 PM. However, the lunches need to be reserved by June 15. Lunches may be picked up with tour tickets at check-in.
For an even deeper insight into these homes, an evening lecture on Friday, June 24, highlights the architecture and history of the National Park. Tickets for that can also be purchased on the Eventbrite site listed above for this program at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center.
