As the RV industry continues to evolve, Heartland RVs, one of the leading RV manufacturers in Elkhart, Indiana, has given a sneak peek into the top design trends for 2024.
The company’s Interior Design Manager Jill Peterson recently shared insights on the changing aesthetics, materials, and inspirations that will shape the RV experience in the coming years.
Sustainable Materials
First and foremost, Heartland places a significant emphasis on sustainability. The company is moving towards using more eco-friendly materials in their RV interiors, which will not only reduce the carbon footprint but also offer a more organic and natural feel inside the vehicle.
“Every year, we learn more about which practices and materials are sustainable, and which options help protect our planet,” Peterson said.
“We always keep this knowledge in mind during our design and material selection process and use as many sustainable materials as possible in our RV interiors.”
A Colorful Comeback
Peterson notes a significant shift from the minimalistic shades of grey that dominated recent years. “Our customers are now craving warmth and depth in their RVs,” she said.
This translates to warmer wood finishes, textured layering, and moody wall colors to set the ambiance.
The pandemic has intensified people’s connection to the outdoors, and this is reflected in RV interior design. Peterson observes a trend towards earthy, warm tones and the incorporation of natural elements like wood, stone, and organic textures.
“Color trends have begun moving toward earthy, warm tones”, she said. “And we’re incorporating more natural elements in our design, like wood, stone and organic textures.”
When it comes to metal finishes, the era of a single metal finish is over. Mixing metals, particularly black and gold, is becoming a popular choice for RV interiors. Peterson explains that black adds sophistication and contrast, while gold complements the rising trend of warm tones.
Residential Feel
Peterson’s design philosophy leans towards bringing a residential feel to RVs. She’s excited about the renewed interest in decorative styles like Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern and hopes to integrate these elements into RV designs.
For Peterson, inspiration is everywhere. From traveling and attending design trade shows to casual browsing on Pinterest, she’s always on the lookout for fresh ideas to bring into the RV space.
Ensuring Durability
Heartland partners with fabric vendors who conduct rigorous testing on their materials. Peterson emphasizes the importance of this partnership, noting the availability of stain-resistant and high-performance fabrics that ensure longevity.
When asked about her dream RV design, Peterson envisions a colorful and energetic interior, a departure from the typically neutral designs aimed at mass appeal.
With these insights from Jill Peterson of Heartland, outdoor enthusiasts, and RVers can look forward to innovative and stylish RV designs in 2024 that not only cater to aesthetic preferences but also prioritize sustainability and durability.
