Major Renovations Planned for Lake Tobesofkee Campgrounds Following County Approval

Lake Tobesofkee, a popular recreational destination in Macon, Georgia, is set to undergo significant renovations following a nearly $600,000 deal approved by Bibb County commissioners. The project, awarded to Warren Associates, will focus on enhancing the campgrounds at Arrowhead Park and Claystone Park, improving this cherished local attraction.

The renovation plan, funded by county special-purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) funds, will upgrade facilities at both parks. Arrowhead Park will receive six new docks, while Claystone Park will see the addition of three docks to enhance the boating experience for visitors. These improvements address previously noted concerns regarding docking facilities.

Warren Associates will also rebuild RV parking areas and restore water and electrical access around the campsites, ensuring the infrastructure meets modern standards for a comfortable camping experience. Additionally, 103 new picnic tables and benches will be installed, enhancing the recreational offerings for visitors.

According to an article published by 13 Wmaz, Don Renow, a long-time visitor who has been coming to Lake Tobesofkee since childhood, expressed his support for the improvements. “This is the only lake that I boat on, so I know it pretty well,” Renow said.

“It would help if all the docks had docking cleats, and at least one dock could be 10 feet longer out like bigger boats like mine. But also if they had courtesy docks where people could load on the boat without blocking the boat ramps, that would be great also,” Renow explained.

Currently, there is no confirmed timeline for the renovation project. However, Bibb County is also reviewing a larger $23 million proposal from Lovejoy Capital, which was discussed in a separate meeting in July. This proposal focuses on developing glamping options and enhancing other features at the Duck Pond area of the lake.
