Wildwood RV Village Installs Faster Internet for Campers

It takes less than a village to reduce the internet surfing speed at most campgrounds. When a few campers are connected to the same wifi network and are simultaneously streaming, some are left with little bandwidth to work with. Fortunately, RVers at Wildwood RV Village (Florida) will soon enjoy a lag-free experience with hard-wired internet installed at each premium site.

Wildwood RV Village continues to offer premium amenities for its campers as the RV park upgrades its premium sites with faster internet and a modem for all devices, making it easier than ever to relax and unwind after a long day.

This is a big win for campers who rely on the internet for work or pleasure.

The move is part of the park’s recent improvements. Out of Wildwood’s 504 RV sites, 345 run on wifi, and campers struggle to access the internet due to many users sharing the bandwidth, Jennifer Johnson, Wildwood RV Village’s operations property manager, told Modern Campground.

Even though Wildwood offers free cable, she said that campers still try to stream.

With the new hard-wired internet that goes directly through a cable, each camper can connect to the internet through their site’s pedestal, ensuring a safe and secure connection.

“[T]hey’re able to do all their devices without any hiccups,” Johnson said.

The campground collaborated with Assisted TV Solutions to provide the new internet offering. Each site will have its modem with an average speed of 35mbps-60mbps. The modem will have its own IP address, allowing Assisted TV to log in and address issues should they occur.

Johnson considers the new utility “a huge selling feature,” saying campers will pay more to have internet than wifi, as many work from campgrounds.

“It’s an amazing thing to have at a campground, especially since the trends now is: the majority of the people, they’re not buying houses and white picket fences; the new American dream is traveling in an RV, homeschooling your kids, working from home and being able to pick up and go wherever you please,” she said.

Asked if the project was cost-effective, Johnson did not skip a beat in saying: “a hundred percent, it’s worth it.”

She said that reservations for the season increased just by the park advertising hard-wired internet. Campers are also willing to comply with the three-month minimum stay just to have hard-wired internet.

While it might have taken a chunk of Wildwood’s wallet to jumpstart the upgrade, “it’ll pay itself in the end,” she said.

The utility is also weather-proof as the modems go inside the RV or underneath a bay door, while the connection runs through the cable system in the pedestal.

Wildwood RV Village’s premium sites, 159 in total, will be upgraded with the hard-wired internet connection per pedestal. As of Friday, over 90 are actively reserved for the season, with six annual tenants at Wildwood willing to pay $195 more monthly for an upgraded site.

Wildwood RV Village is situated at 882 E. State Road 44 in Wildwood, Florida. The park is pet and family-friendly and features a heated pool, on-site laundry, and more.
