Sergio Alvarez, assistant professor at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management, attributes the state’s success to several factors, including its aggressive reopening strategy and its diverse offerings, from famous theme parks to scenic trails and state parks.
Florida has everything that travelers dream of, from stunning beaches and sparkling waters to man-made attractions like theme parks and special events.
Walt Disney World, for instance, continued its 50th anniversary celebrations last year, which drew in a large number of visitors. The company’s anniversary festivities, which will continue into 2023, are expected to further boost the state’s tourism industry.
Additionally, the state’s warm climate and proximity to other states make it an attractive destination for domestic travelers, who are increasingly seeking travel experiences over material possessions.
Last year, Florida’s tourism industry generated about $42.8 billion, according to the Florida Department of Revenue, which included spending on hotels, rooming houses, and apartments.
The state’s tourism industry also benefited local businesses, which saw a 38% increase in visitors during the first quarter of 2023 compared to the previous year.
