Disney Announces Major Changes to Historic Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Disney is shaking things up at one of its oldest and most beloved resorts in Florida. The Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which originally opened in 1971, will soon undergo significant changes, according to a recent announcement by the company.

The plans involve replacing the existing cabins at the resort with 350 new standalone cabins, which will be added to the offerings of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC).

Each cabin will boast a separate bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, private patio, and the ability to accommodate up to six guests.

Some cabins will also be dog-friendly, adding an extra layer of convenience and appeal for pet owners.

The new cabins, set to debut in 2024, mark the 17th Disney Vacation Club resort. The company is positioning the new cabins as a way to continue building upon the resort’s rich legacy and offering guests an elevated experience.

For more than 50 years, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has offered guests the opportunity to explore nature with their loved ones while staying in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort,” said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club.

“We’re excited to continue to build upon the resort’s rich legacy and elevate the cabin experience for our Members and all guests to enjoy for years to come,” Diercksen added.

In addition to the new cabins, the resort is also undergoing other changes, including expanded dining experiences at Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern.

These updates promise to provide guests with more choices and new culinary experiences to enjoy during their stay.

These changes can be an opportunity for other private campgrounds to innovate and offer unique experiences to compete with Disney’s offerings.

As a part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to remain relevant and provide guests with memorable experiences, these updates to the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are a clear indication that the company is not resting on its laurels.

The new cabins and dining experiences promise to elevate guests’ experiences and cement the resort’s place as one of the premier destinations in the Orlando area.

Disney’s decision to replace the existing cabins with new, more luxurious ones is a savvy move, as it will appeal to a wider range of guests who are looking for a more elevated camping experience.

The addition of dog-friendly cabins is also a smart move, as more and more pet owners are seeking out accommodations that welcome their furry friends.

The expansion of dining options will also provide a much-needed boost to the resort’s dining offerings, giving guests more options than ever before.

The changes coming to the Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground are sure to delight Disney fans and visitors to the Orlando area.

The new cabins and expanded dining options promise to take the guest experience to new heights while paying homage to the resort’s rich history.

Though the updates may have an impact on private campground owners and operators in the surrounding area, they also represent an opportunity to innovate and offer unique experiences that set themselves apart from the competition.
