Homestead Campground in Georgetown marks a significant milestone this year, celebrating its 50th anniversary. Established in 1974 by the Prettyman family, this campground has become a destination for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts in Delaware.
In 2012, the campground transitioned to new ownership when Investors Realty, Inc., a local investment group, purchased the property. Over the past 12 years, the team has implemented numerous improvements, enhancing the camping experience for guests.
As reported by Cape Gazette, Casey Kenton of Investors Realty expressed pride in being one of the few remaining locally owned and operated campgrounds in the area. “We hope to continue delivering a great camping experience to our guests for another half-century,” Kenton added.
Homestead Campground offers a variety of amenities to its guests. The site features 358 sites, including seasonal, nightly, and weekly stay options. The cabins can accommodate up to eight people.
According to its website, Homestead Campground offers full-service campsites with electric, water, and sewer connections. Sites are also designated for pop-up campers and tents, with seasonal electric and water hookups available from May 1 through September 30. The variety of site options ensures that campers can choose the setup that best suits their needs.
Another aspect of the campground is its wide range of recreational activities, including a family pool, an adults-only pool, a large splash pad, Wi-Fi, and a 24-hour laundry facility. Additionally, the pet-friendly policy and two spacious dog parks ensure that furry companions are well cared for.
The campground is also equipped with cornhole pits and a cornhole pavilion, a full basketball court, horseshoe pits, and a catch-and-release fishing pond with a dock. The game room is popular among guests, featuring over 60 classic arcade games, a driving game, ping-pong, air hockey, foosball, a Connect 4 wall game, a pool table, and vending machines stocked with drinks and snacks.
Homestead Campground’s success in offering various amenities and accommodating various campers highlights the importance of diversifying services. By catering to different camping preferences—ranging from tent sites to full-service RV spots and cabin accommodations—Homestead has broadened its appeal to a wider audience. For future RV park owners and campground operators, this underscores the need to create inclusive and spacious campsites that meet the needs of a diverse customer base. This approach aims to increase occupancy rates and repeated visits.
