Snowbirds Bound for Alabama to Discover a Revamped Camping Experience

This year, snowbirds setting their sights on Alabama are in for a treat. The state’s RV parks and resorts have undergone significant expansions and improvements, ensuring a luxurious stay for these seasonal travelers.

One of the standout developments is at Sun Outdoors Orange Beach, which has introduced a whopping 330 new RV sites this year.

Some of these sites even boast outdoor kitchens, perfect for those who love alfresco dining. But that’s not all; the resort is also in the midst of constructing a slew of new amenities. From a state-of-the-art clubhouse and swimming pool to a restaurant and arcade, guests will have a plethora of activities to choose from.

Not too far away, the Paradise Found RV Resort and Marina in Theodore is shaping up to be another hotspot. Although it’s still under construction, when it opens its doors next summer, visitors will be greeted with 246 sites, many of which offer serene waterfront views. The resort promises a blend of relaxation and recreation, with amenities such as an outdoor pool, a cutting-edge fitness center, and even an indoor movie theater.

Other parks, like the Cross City Campground and RV Resort in Cross City, are already making plans for the future. They’ve announced a 40-site expansion set for 2024.

Meanwhile, the Homestead RV Community in Theodore is upping the ante with a saltwater pool, shuffleboard, pickleball courts, and a spacious event center. They’re also at the forefront of technology, actively beta testing products to enhance the RV experience.

Birmingham South RV Park in Pelham and Island Retreat RV Park in Gulf Shores have also jumped on the improvement bandwagon. The former has poured new concrete for eight RV sites and made significant paving improvements, while the latter has added a brand-new Jayco travel trailer for snowbirds to rent.

Kick Back Ranch in Ramer, Alabama, is embracing agritourism with its latest enhancements. The ranch is not only expanding its general store but also introducing more farm animals this fall. Visitors can expect more accommodation options with the addition of rooms equipped with kitchens. The ranch aims to be an educational hub, offering learning stations that delve into agriculture, farming, forestry, and conservation.

Meanwhile, the Luxury RV Resort in Gulf Shores has made notable upgrades to cater to Snowbirds. A brand-new Jayco travel trailer has been added to its roster of 97 sites, serving as a fresh rental option. The resort has also revamped its communal spaces, with a refurbished clubhouse deck, new outdoor furniture, and a shuffleboard court.

For other private campground owners and RV park operators, these developments in Alabama offer valuable insights. The rapid expansion and improvement of RV parks and resorts in the state underscore the rising demand for high-quality outdoor hospitality experiences. By observing the amenities and services that are attracting snowbirds to Alabama, more and more operators can glean inspiration for their own establishments, ensuring they remain competitive in this booming industry.

Bobby Cornwell, the president and CEO of the Florida and Alabama RV Park and Campground Association, perfectly encapsulated the current trend: “RV resorts in Alabama keep getting bigger and better.” This sentiment is not only a testament to the state’s commitment to enhancing the snowbird experience but also a call to action for campground owners everywhere. As the industry evolves, staying abreast of the latest trends and innovations is paramount.

As snowbirds prepare to make their annual journey south, Alabama is poised to offer them an unparalleled RV experience. With its revamped parks and resorts, the state is setting a new standard in outdoor hospitality.
